What does -는 바람에 (neun barame) mean in Korean?

How to Use

Used when an unexpected event caused a bad or unintended result.

Rule: The result is always negative and always in the past. Never add a tense marker before it — say 늦는 바람에, not 늦었는 바람에. Do not use it with commands or suggestions.

Examples

늦잠을 자는 바람에 지각했어요.

I was late because I overslept.

비가 오는 바람에 못 갔어요.

I couldn't go because it rained.
