My car wouldn't start, and my flight was in three hours. I called my friend, half-panicking. "I was wondering if you could give me a ride," I said.
He showed up in twenty minutes, still in his pajamas. "I really appreciate you dropping everything for me," I told him. He just waved it off.
I felt bad for the short notice. "Feel free to say no if it's too much," I'd told him on the phone. But he never even hesitated.
On the way, traffic was light and we had time to talk. "Let me know if you need anything in return," I said. He laughed and changed the subject.
He dropped me right at the curb with time to spare. "Seriously, I owe you one for this," I said through the window. Good friends show up.
