The timer hits zero. The screen goes dark. You still have three songs left in you.
In a coin norebang, that's not a problem.

How coin norebangs work
코인노래방 (ko-in no-rae-bang) is the self-service version. No front desk, no staff to call — just you, the machine, and however many coins you have.
You pay per song or per block of time, depending on the machine. Most common is a set number of songs per coin — usually 2 to 3 songs for 1,000 won. Insert the coin, the screen activates, and you sing until the credit runs out.
When time or songs are up, the screen pauses and waits. Insert another coin to keep going. That's it.
Coin norebangs vs regular norebangs
| 코인노래방 | 일반 노래방 | |
|---|---|---|
| Booking | No reservation, walk in | Book by the hour |
| Payment | Coin per song | Hourly rate at the desk |
| Group size | 1–2 people | 2–10+ people |
| Staff | None | Front desk |
| Extra time | Insert more coins | Call the desk |
| Price | Cheaper | More expensive |
Coin norebangs are everywhere — in basements, in shopping mall corridors, near university campuses. They're the default for a quick solo session or a two-person visit without committing to a full hour.
Useful phrases
코인 어디서 바꿔요? — "Where do I exchange for coins?" Some machines take bills directly. Others need coins from a change machine nearby.
이 기계 고장난 것 같아요 — "I think this machine is broken" Rare, but it happens. Look for a contact number posted on the machine.
몇 곡 남았어? — "How many songs are left?" myeot gok nam-ass-eo?
한 곡만 더 하자 — "Let's do just one more song" The most dangerous phrase in a norebang. One more is never one more.
What to actually do
- Walk in and find an empty booth — no reservation needed
- Insert coins or bills into the machine to start
- Search for songs and sing until the credit runs out
- When the screen pauses, check how much you have left — 몇 곡 남았어?
- Insert more coins if you want to keep going — 조금만 더 부르고 가자
The whole thing runs on coins and good songs. Bring a few extra thousand won and you'll never have to stop mid-playlist.
